Water Line Replacement and Repair

Water line problems we handle in Apex

These are the six situations behind most water line calls. If yours is not here, call and describe it.

Soggy spot or a meter that will not stop spinning

Shut off every fixture and watch the meter. If it still moves, water is going somewhere, often a leak in the yard. We trace the line, confirm the spot, and tell you whether it is a repair or a replacement.

Old polybutylene service line

Gray polybutylene was used in homes built roughly between 1978 and 1995. It fails at fittings, often without warning. If your line is polybutylene, we replace it with PEX or copper.

Galvanized service line

Galvanized steel rusts from the inside, narrows over time, and eventually leaks. Rust-colored water and weak flow are the usual signs. Replacement is the long-term fix.

Trench or pull a new line

Sometimes the best route is a new trench along a clear path. Sometimes the old route can be reused. We walk the yard, look at driveways, trees, and landscaping, and explain which makes sense for your property.

Pressure problems at the main

Very high pressure wears out fixtures and water heaters. Very low pressure can be a bad line or a stuck valve. We test at the main and replace the pressure reducing valve (PRV) when it has failed.

New line for an addition or detached garage

A new bathroom, workshop, or garage needs its own supply. We plan the route, size the line for the load, and tie in on your side of the meter, with buried utilities located before anyone digs.

We pull permits where the town requires them, coordinate with the town on the meter, pressure test the new line, and confirm flow at every fixture.

Apex Water Service

Water lines in Apex

Most homes inside the town limits are on town water from Jordan Lake. Coordination with the town on the meter and permits is part of a service line job, and we handle it. Addresses on the western and southern edges, such as parts of New Hill and Friendship, are often on private wells, which is a different plumbing picture. See our well pump service if that is you.

Apex homes from roughly 1978 to 1995 may have polybutylene, so older streets near downtown and 1990s subdivisions like Abbington, Woodcreek, and Haddon Hall are worth a look. Newer neighborhoods like Jordan Pointe and Seagroves Farm have PEX or copper lines but can still develop pressure problems. Clay soil swells and shrinks and can move a buried line over time.

Our shop is at 3460 Apex Pkwy, and we work Monday through Saturday, 7:00 to 18:00. Call or text (919) 679-1275, or book online. More about how we work in Apex.

Water line questions from Apex

How much does water line replacement cost in Apex?

It depends on the length of the run, the pipe material, the route and what has to be crossed or restored, and permit needs. We give you the real price in writing before we start.

How do I know if my water line is leaking?

A soggy or sunken spot in the yard, a bill that jumps with no change in use, or a meter that moves with everything off. We trace the line to confirm before recommending a repair.

Should I replace a polybutylene or galvanized service line?

Both are known to fail. We look at what you have and where it runs, and give you repair and replacement options. Replacing with PEX or copper is the long-term fix.

My pressure is too high or too low. Is it the line?

It can be, but a failed pressure reducing valve causes both. We test at the main first, so you do not pay to replace a line that is fine.

Can you run water to a detached garage or addition?

Yes. We plan the route, have utilities located, size the line, and tie in on your side of the meter.

Do you handle the permit and the town meter?

We pull permits where the town requires them and coordinate with the town on the meter side. We confirm what applies when we scope the job.
