Your tank is failing and you are weighing options
A replacement is the natural time to consider tankless. We check the gas line, vent path, and wall space, and tell you plainly whether tankless or a new tank is the better fit.
Tankless Installation, Conversion, Repair, and Service
A tankless water heater heats water only when you ask for it, so there is no tank to run out and no standby heating. We install Navien and Rinnai units, convert homes from tank to tankless, and repair and descale the ones already on the wall.

If you smell gas near a water heater, leave the house right away and do not touch switches or lights. Call the gas utility from outside first, then call us once you are safe.
How Tankless Works
When a hot tap opens, a flow sensor tells the unit to fire. Cold water passes through a heat exchanger, and the unit holds the temperature you set. When the tap closes, it shuts off. Nothing is kept hot in the meantime, which is where the energy savings come from, and why a properly sized unit does not run out.
Tankless suits homes with growing hot water demand, owners planning to stay a long time, and anyone short on floor space, since the unit mounts on the wall. It suits less well where the budget is tight, the gas line is far from the unit, or the house has no practical place to vent it. A standard tank is still the right answer in plenty of homes, and we will say so. For the full comparison, see [tank vs. tankless](/water-heaters).
A conversion is more than swapping the heater. Most tankless units need a larger gas line than a tank does, new venting to the outside, a condensate drain for condensing models, power for the controls, and a mounting spot that works. Some units are rated for outdoor mounting, which can solve a space problem. We look at all of it before quoting, because each one changes the price.
Sizing is by flow rate, not tank gallons. We add up what you run at the same time, such as a shower, a dishwasher, and a laundry load, and choose a unit that can heat that much water at the temperature rise your incoming water needs. We install Navien and Rinnai, and can service most other brands.
Upkeep matters. Triangle municipal water is moderately hard, and scale builds inside a tankless heat exchanger. Descaling once a year keeps it efficient and prevents the error codes and reduced flow that scale causes. Skipping it is the most common reason a tankless unit gives trouble early.

Teenagers, guests, a soaking tub. If the hot water keeps running out, a properly sized tankless unit solves it, because it heats as fast as water flows rather than as fast as a tank refills.
Most codes point to scale, an ignition problem, a venting issue, or a sensor. We read the code, inspect the unit, and fix the actual cause rather than resetting it and leaving.
Often a scaled heat exchanger, a flow sensor, or a unit that is too small for the fixtures running. A descaling and a check of the flow often brings it back.
If it has been a few years, schedule a flush now. Scale builds slowly, then causes trouble all at once. Annual descaling is cheaper than the repair that follows when it is skipped.
Commercial demand is higher and more constant. We can install multiple tankless units working together, and add recirculation so hot water reaches the sink without a long wait.

Where the heater goes, the gas line, the vent path, the fixtures you run together. This is what sets the unit size and the price, so we check it before quoting.
We explain tankless against a tank for your home, then give you the real price for the whole job before anything starts. Ask about financing and current water heater offers.
We install and test the unit, remove the old one, and show you the settings and how to schedule descaling. Work is permitted and inspected where the town requires it.

Helpful Details
When you open a hot tap, a flow sensor fires the burner or element. Cold water passes through a heat exchanger and leaves at your set temperature. When you close the tap, it shuts off, so nothing is heated while you are not using it.
Tankless installs typically run $4,000–$6,000 installed, against $2,000–$4,000 for a standard tank. The exact number for your home comes in writing before any work starts, and it depends on the gas line, venting, and location.
Often, yes. A tankless unit burns a lot of gas at once, so the line that fed a tank is frequently too small. We size the line for the unit's BTU rating and tell you before quoting if it needs to change.
In the Triangle, yes. Municipal water here is moderately hard, and scale builds inside the heat exchanger, reducing flow and efficiency and eventually causing error codes. A yearly flush is the simple fix. Call (919) 679-1275 to schedule one.
Both. We diagnose error codes, ignition problems, flow sensors, and scale, and repair most brands. If a unit is past repair, we say so and talk replacement.
Yes. Commercial demand is usually met with multiple tankless units working together, plus a recirculation loop so hot water arrives quickly at distant sinks. We size it to your peak load.
