A shower that drips and will not stop
A drip after you turn the handle off means a worn cartridge or seals in the valve. Tightening the handle will not fix it. We match the valve, replace the worn parts, and test it.

These are the shower calls we get most. Find yours and you will know what the fix usually is.
A drip after you turn the handle off means a worn cartridge or seals in the valve. Tightening the handle will not fix it. We match the valve, replace the worn parts, and test it.
A single-handle valve uses a cartridge to balance hot and cold. When it wears, the shower runs scalding or cold mid-rinse. We replace the cartridge or the balancing part and test it hot and cold.
If only one shower runs cold while the rest of the house has hot water, the cartridge or the mixing parts in that valve are the likely cause. If every fixture runs cold, we check the [water heater](/water-heaters) first.
A clogged shower head is the easy cause. Scale in the valve or cartridge, a failing diverter, or a restricted supply line are the others. We start at the head and work back to the valve.
A shower head or arm that leaks at the wall needs the fitting resealed or replaced. A leak at the shower pan or drain often shows as a stain on the floor or ceiling nearby. We find the source before anyone opens a wall.
A new shower, a handheld, or a thermostatic valve needs the valve, arm, and drain set at the right points. We do the plumbing and work with your remodeler on the tile and glass.
Clear Answers
A drip, a temperature swing, low pressure, or a remodel plan. We give you an arrival window and the price before any work starts.
We identify the valve or head and tell you whether it is a cartridge swap, a valve replacement, or something that needs wall access. You approve the price first.
We make the repair, run the shower hot and cold, and check for leaks at the head, the valve, and the drain before we leave.
Apex Homes
Many Apex houses built in the 1990s and 2010s have builder-grade shower valves that are now at the end of their life. Cartridges wear, handles loosen, and scale builds up. Triangle municipal water is moderately hard, and most homes inside Apex are on town water from Jordan Lake, so scale in showerheads and valves is a regular cause of low pressure.
Homes built roughly between 1978 and 1995 in the Triangle may have polybutylene supply piping, which can fail at fittings. If a shower wall is open, it is a good time to look at what is behind it. A damp wall or stained ceiling near a shower is a sign to call, and our leak repair page explains what we do from there.
Our shop is at 3460 Apex Pkwy, and this is where most of our trucks start the day. We work Monday through Saturday, 7:00 to 18:00. For the rest of the house, see our Apex plumber page.
Helpful Details
A drip after you shut the water off usually means a worn cartridge or worn seals in the valve. We match the valve, replace what is worn, and test it.
Often a cartridge can be replaced from the front. Replacing the whole valve body usually needs access from behind. We tell you which it is before we start.
It depends on the valve, whether the wall has to be opened, and what parts are needed. We give you the real price before we start, and nothing happens until you approve it. Call (919) 679-1275 for an arrival window.
If the rest of the house has hot water, the cartridge or mixing parts in that valve are the likely cause. We check the valve first and the water heater if the whole house is affected.
Yes. Hair and soap build up in the trap and first few feet of pipe. We clear it properly. If the drain itself is leaking, we look at the pan and the drain connection.
We do the plumbing: the rough-in, valve, drain, and the final set. Tile, glass, and waterproofing are your remodeler's work, and we test the plumbing before the wall closes.
