Toilet Repair and Installation

Toilet repair and installation in Raleigh

Find the one that sounds like your toilet. Each has a usual fix, and we will tell you when yours is the exception.

Running toilet: flapper or fill valve

If the tank refills on its own, or hisses after the flush, the flapper is leaking into the bowl or the fill valve is not shutting off. A flapper is the cheaper part and the likelier one. We replace the part that failed, set the water level, and check the shutoff valve at the wall while we are there.

Wax ring leak, or a toilet that rocks

A toilet that moves breaks its own seal. Water at the base, a smell, or a floor that feels soft near the toilet all point to a failed wax ring. We pull the toilet, replace the seal, reset it solid, and check the subfloor before it goes back down.

A damaged flange in an older home

Raleigh homes inside the Beltline often have a cast-iron drain under the toilet. The flange that bolts to it can rust, crack, or sit below the floor, and then the toilet will not stay sealed, no matter how many rings go on it. We repair or replace the flange so the new seal has something sound to sit on.

A toilet that clogs again and again

One clog is normal. Repeat clogs mean either a toilet that does not flush well or a line past it that is partly blocked. If the tub gurgles or other drains slow down when you flush, we look at the line before we swap the toilet.

Replacing an old 3.5-gallon toilet

Older toilets can use far more water per flush than efficient ones do, and they often flush worse than the new ones anyway. Replacing one saves water and gets rid of the repeat repairs. We remove the old toilet, check the flange and the floor, and set the new one on a fresh seal with a new supply line.

Comfort-height toilets, and a toilet for an added bathroom

A comfort-height toilet sits taller, so it is easier on knees and hips. We install them in place of low builder units. For an added bathroom, the toilet needs a drain, a vent, and a flange set at the right height in the floor, and we coordinate that rough-in with your remodel schedule.

What a toilet call looks like

  1. 1

Tell us what it is doing

Running, rocking, leaking, or clogging, and whether anything else in the house drains slowly. Call, text, or book online. We give you the price before work starts.

  2. 2

We find the cause, not just the symptom

We test the tank parts, check the seal and flange at the floor, and look at the shutoff valve. If the pattern points to the drain, we say so.

  3. 3

    Repair or replace, your call

We explain the options and recommend one. If a new toilet makes sense, we help you pick a height and style, install it, and test it before we leave.

Raleigh Bathrooms

Toilets in Raleigh homes

Raleigh has homes from every era, and the toilet problem depends on the era. Central Raleigh and the older neighborhoods inside the Beltline often have cast-iron drains and flanges that are decades old. The toilet is easy to replace. The flange under it is what decides whether the new one stays sealed, so we look at it every time we pull one. Newer subdivisions in North and West Raleigh more often have simple flapper, fill valve, and builder-grade toilet issues.

Slab and crawlspace homes show a base leak differently. On a slab, water at the base soaks flooring and subfloor and can go unnoticed for a while. Over a crawlspace, a failed seal can drip through the subfloor where you can find it from below. Either way, we check the floor, not just the seal. If you are adding a bathroom in South or East Raleigh, tell us where it goes and we will plan the toilet's drain and flange with the rest of the rough-in. Helpful Details

Toilet installation and repair questions in Raleigh

How much does toilet repair or installation cost in Raleigh?

It depends on the problem and the fixture: a flapper or fill valve, a new seal and flange repair, or a full replacement with the toilet you choose. We tell you the price before we start and nothing is done until you approve it. Call (919) 679-1275 to describe what is happening.

Why does my toilet keep running?

Usually a flapper that no longer seals, or a fill valve that does not shut off at the right level. Replacing the worn part normally stops it.

My toilet rocks and the floor around it is soft. What now?

Stop using it. A rocking toilet has broken its seal, and a soft floor means water has been getting into the subfloor. We pull the toilet, check the floor and the flange, and reset it on a new seal. If the subfloor is damaged, we tell you before we go further.

Can you fix a broken toilet flange on an older house?

Yes. We repair or replace flanges, including on older cast-iron drains. What the fix involves depends on what we find, and we explain it before we start.

Should I replace my old toilet with an efficient one?

If it is an older high-volume toilet that flushes weakly or needs repeat repairs, yes, replacement is usually the better path. A newer efficient model uses less water per flush. If your toilet still works well, we will say so and repair it.

Do you install toilets for a new bathroom?

Yes. A new bathroom needs a drain, a vent, and a flange at the right height before the toilet goes in. We coordinate with your remodel schedule and set the toilet after the floor is finished. Permits are pulled where Raleigh requires them.
