Running toilet
A toilet that keeps refilling or hisses after a flush is leaking past a worn flapper or a tired fill valve. It wastes water and shows up on the bill. We replace the failing part, usually in one visit.

Toilet Repair and Installation
These six account for most toilet calls. Find yours and we will explain what the fix usually involves.
A toilet that keeps refilling or hisses after a flush is leaking past a worn flapper or a tired fill valve. It wastes water and shows up on the bill. We replace the failing part, usually in one visit.
A flush that barely clears the bowl can come from a low tank water level, a partly blocked rim, or a toilet that was never a strong performer. We diagnose which, and replace the toilet only when the fixture is the real problem.
Water around the base or a toilet that moves means the wax ring has failed or the closet bolts are loose. We reset it on a new seal and check the flange and the floor, because a slow leak soaks the subfloor.
Many Cary homes still have the original toilet, and it tends to sit low and flush weakly. We install a comfort-height, better-flushing model, set level on a fresh seal, with a new supply line.
One clog is normal. Repeat clogs mean a weak flush or a partial blockage farther down the line. If other drains gurgle, we look at [drain cleaning in Cary](/drain-cleaning-cary-nc) before swapping a toilet that is not at fault.
When a bathroom is being redone, the toilet comes out and goes back in around the floor and vanity work. We set it after the floor is finished and check the flange height so it sits right.
Clear Answers
Does it run, rock, leak, or clog, and are other fixtures affected? Call, text, or book online. We give you an arrival window and the price before work starts.
We test the tank parts, check the seal and flange at the floor, and look at the shutoff valve. If the pattern points past the toilet, we say so.
We explain the options and recommend the one that fits. If a new toilet makes sense, we help you pick a height and style, then install it and test it before we leave.
Cary Bathrooms
Much of Cary was built between the 1980s and the 2000s, and many bathrooms still have the toilet that came with the house. Builder-grade toilets from that era sit low, and the flappers, fill valves, and wax rings inside them have had decades of Triangle water and minerals. In Kildaire Farms, MacGregor Downs, Scottish Hills, and Greenwood Forest, a running toilet or a rocking one is a very common call, and replacing the whole toilet is often the better fix than a third repair.
Slab-on-grade and crawlspace homes show a base leak differently. On a slab, water at the base soaks the flooring and subfloor and can go unnoticed for a while. Over a crawlspace, a failed seal can drip through the subfloor where you can trace it from below. Either way, we check the flange and the floor, not just the seal. If you are redoing a bathroom in Preston, Lochmere, Amberly, or anywhere in town, tell us the toilet you chose and the floor schedule and we will set it at the right point in the job.

Helpful Details
It depends on the problem and the fixture: a flapper or fill valve, a new wax ring and flange work, or a full replacement with the toilet model you choose. We tell you the price before we start and nothing is done until you approve it. Call (919) 679-1275 to describe what is happening.
Usually a flapper that no longer seals, or a fill valve that does not shut off at the right level. Both wear with age and minerals in the water. Replacing the worn part normally stops it.
It can be low water in the tank, a partly blocked rim, or a toilet that simply flushes poorly. We check the tank and bowl first. If the toilet itself is the weak link, we can replace it with a better-flushing model.
Typically a failed wax ring, loose closet bolts, or a shifted flange. Stop using it so water does not reach the subfloor. We reset the toilet on a new seal and check the flange and floor.
If it flushes weakly, clogs often, or needs repeated repairs, replacement is often the better choice. A comfort-height model is also easier to sit on and stand up from. If it still works well, we will say so and repair it.
We pull permits where the town requires them. A simple toilet repair or swap usually does not need one, and we confirm what your job needs when we scope it.
