Tub drain or overflow leaking
A failed gasket at the drain or overflow can drip for months before it shows. The first sign is often a stain on the ceiling below. We replace the drain and overflow assembly and test it with the tub full.
Bathtub Plumbing for Cary Homes
A stain on the ceiling under the bathroom, a tub that drains slowly, or a builder-grade tub coming out in a remodel: this is the plumbing under and behind the tub. Our shop is in Apex, next to Cary. We tell you what is wrong and give you the real price before we start.

Bathtub Repair and Installation
Most bathtub calls are one of these six. Tell us which one sounds like yours and we will tell you what it usually takes.
A failed gasket at the drain or overflow can drip for months before it shows. The first sign is often a stain on the ceiling below. We replace the drain and overflow assembly and test it with the tub full.
Water dribbling from the spout while the shower runs, or a spout that has come loose from the wall, means a worn diverter or a failing spout. We replace the spout or diverter with one that fits.
A tub valve that drips, will not shut off, or has lost temperature control has a worn cartridge or a failing valve body. Some cartridges come out from the front. A full valve may need access from behind the wall. We tell you which before we start.
Hair and soap build up in the trap and the first few feet of pipe. We clear it. If the whole house drains slowly, see [drain cleaning in Cary](/drain-cleaning-cary-nc).
A tub swap during a bathroom update means the drain, overflow, and valve have to be set for the new tub. We do the plumbing and coordinate with your remodeler so it is tested before the wall closes.
Converting a tub to a walk-in shower changes the drain location and often the valve height. We do the plumbing side and leave tile, glass, and waterproofing to your remodeler.
Clear Answers
A ceiling stain, a slow drain, a drip at the spout, or a remodel plan. Photos of the tub and any access panel help. We give you an arrival window and the price before work begins.
We check the drain and overflow, the spout and diverter, and the valve. We tell you what needs repair and whether any wall access is required.
We do the work, fill the tub, and check every connection for leaks before we leave.
Cary Homes
Much of Cary was built from the late 1980s through the 2000s. In 1990s and 2000s neighborhoods like Preston, Lochmere, Amberly, and Cary Park, builder-grade tubs and their drains are now old enough to leak, and owners are updating bathrooms. A tub swap is the right moment to replace the drain, overflow, spout, and valve, because the wall is already open.
A larger soaking tub changes the hot water demand. If you are adding one, check the water heater first, since a tank that runs out halfway through the fill makes a poor bath. See our Cary water heater page. Homes built roughly from 1978 to 1995 may have polybutylene supply piping, so if the wall is open we will tell you what we find. Cary homes are a mix of slab and crawlspace, which affects how we reach the drain: from a crawlspace or access panel, or through the floor.
You can call or text (919) 679-1275, or book online. Our shop is at 3460 Apex Pkwy in Apex, which borders Cary, and we work Monday through Saturday, 7:00 to 18:00. More about the town is on our Cary plumber page.
Helpful Details
It might be. A leaking tub drain, overflow gasket, or supply line can all show up on the ceiling below. We test the drain and overflow with the tub full and check the valve to find the source.
It depends on the work: a drain or spout repair, a valve replacement, wall access, or a full tub swap. We give you the real price before we start, and nothing happens until you approve it. Call (919) 679-1275.
Often, yes. Many drain and overflow assemblies come out through the tub or a crawlspace or ceiling access. It depends on the home. We tell you what we need before we start.
Maybe not. A soaking tub holds far more water than a standard tub. A small tank can run out before the tub fills. We can check what you have and talk through options, including a larger tank or [tankless](/tankless-water-heaters).
We do the plumbing side: moving the drain, setting the valve, and testing. Tile, glass, and waterproofing are your remodeler's work and we coordinate with them.
We pull permits where the town requires them. Repairs usually do not need one, and a remodel that moves plumbing may. We confirm what your job needs when we scope it.
